Dr. Matthew Mehan, the Worsham Teaching Fellow for Hillsdale College, and Dr. Chad Pecknold, Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at the Catholic University of America, discuss St. Augustine’s Ciceronian account of justice and the providence of politics.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Matthew Mehan is the Worsham Teaching Fellow at Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr., Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. He recieved his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Dallas. He is the Jackson Scholars Honors Thesis Director at The Heights School in Maryland and is a Fellow of the Center for Thomas More Studies. He is currently working toward publication of his illustrated book of poetry, Mr. Mehan’s Mildly Amusing Mythical Mammals.
Chad Pecknold is an Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at the Catholic University of America. He is the author of "Christianity and Politics: A Brief Guide to the History" and "Transforming Postliberal Theology: George Lindbeck, Pragmatism and Scripture." He is currently working on a book about Augustine’s City of God, and authored articles including one entitled “Political Ethics,” in "The Oxford Encyclopaedia of the Bible and Ethics." He is an Associate Editor for the English Edition of the journal Nova et Vetera, and has appeared on radio and television, and has been quoted in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. This spring Prof. Pecknold launched a "Twitter Seminar" on Augustine's City of God which can be followed with using #CivDei.
