The Thomistic Institute Launches Sed Contra

Sed Contra draws from the Thomistic Institute’s rich pool of lectures, adapting the most impactful ones into written form.

WASHINGTON, DC, October 15, 2024 – The Thomistic Institute is excited to announce the launch of Sed Contra, a new bi-monthly publication designed to bring the transformative insights from our lectures to a wider audience. With a presence on 95 college campuses and a reach extending to millions through our podcast, our lectures spark profound discussions and life-changing insights that should be taking place in our universities, public institutions, and the broader public sphere.

Sed Contra draws from our extensive catalog of lectures, adapting the most impactful ones into written form. This publication aims to advance our mission of promoting Catholic truth in our contemporary world by strengthening the intellectual formation of Christians at universities, in the Church, and in the public square.

The inaugural issue features an illuminating article titled “How is My iPhone Changing Me? Neuroscience and Thomistic Psychology” by Prof. Joshua Hochschild, a distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Mount St. Mary’s University. A renowned expert in medieval logic, metaphysics, and ethics, Prof. Hochschild is also co-author of “A Mind at Peace: Reclaiming an Ordered Soul in the Age of Distraction.” His contributions to the discourse on liberal education and the relevance of the Catholic intellectual tradition are invaluable, making his insights particularly timely in our rapidly evolving digital age.
