The Thomistic Institute has experienced rapid growth in the reach of its digital offerings over the past several years. We are now in a position to work strategically to better integrate our digital assets and leverage on our content more effectively, focusing not just on social media but on marketing and overall digital outreach.

The position is full-time and 100% in-person at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C.

The marketing and content manager will work closely with other members of the Thomistic Institute (TI) team (especially our existing communications and video production team) to coordinate a comprehensive digital strategy. The position requires formation and experience in communications, digital marketing, design, and video editing. It also requires a keen eye for accuracy and precision in ensuring a clean digital brand for the Institute.

Responsibilities

  • Exercising stewardship over the TI’s digital brand in continuity with the current digital footprint of the TI.
  • Implementing an integrated digital marketing and advertising strategy across platforms (in consultation with agencies and consultants on an ad hoc basis).
  • Overseeing optimization of website, email, and social media channels according to evolving best practices.
  • Managing and maintaining the TI’s social media platforms and accounts, including the development and implementation of a social media plan for regular campaigns and posts promoting the TI’s work.
  • The creation and curation of engaging content to promote the work of the TI, to both increase engagement online and in person, and grow the TI’s overall visibility. This will include generating novel content, driving traffic to existing TI programming, and cooperating with the development team’s efforts.
  • The design and management of advertising campaigns across platforms including but not limited to Google search ads, Meta (Facebook Business Manager), and YouTube.
  • Regular data gathering and reporting on the performance of social media channels, TI digital assets, development efforts, and advertising campaigns.
  • Exploration of opportunities for digital collaboration with other comparable academic and apostolic initiatives and entities, and coordination of these engagements, working closely with members of the TI team and external contractors as needed.
  • Monitoring and responding to comments, messages, etc., in connection with TI social media accounts, and maintaining internal guidelines for social media responses.

Consequently, the TI is seeking an individual who is eminently trustworthy; is ready to take initiative and to work independently; has good judgment; is self-motivated, hard-working, and able to work without constant supervision; has strong organizational abilities and attention to detail; and is strongly motivated by the TI’s mission to bring the truth of the Catholic intellectual tradition to secular university campuses (and the wider public square), and to deepen engagement in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas in the contemporary academy.

As part of the position, the Marketing and Content Manager will be entitled to audit one course free of charge per semester at the Dominican House of Studies (e.g., M.A. level classes in philosophy or theology), during office hours.

All members of the TI team are encouraged to participate in the regular liturgical life of the Dominican friars (e.g., step away from work for Mass, the daily midday rosary, the divine office, etc.).

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Benefits: Medical benefits and a retirement plan. Two weeks of paid vacation; in addition, TI employees receive paid leave for most public holidays and Catholic Solemnities (e.g., the Triduum, St. Joseph’s Day, Immaculate Conception), plus from Dec. 21-Jan. 2 for the Christmas/New Year’s holiday).

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least a B.A. degree or its equivalent;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience in digital marketing, social media, copywriting, and/or with SEO.
  • Is responsible, has good judgment, and has strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the Catholic intellectual tradition and motivation to spread the faith by intellectual evangelization.

The Thomistic Institute is a research institute of the Pontifical Faculty of the Dominican House of Studies and an apostolate of the Dominican friars of the Province of St. Joseph. The person holding this position will represent the Director and the Dominican friars in public, will bear witness to and teach the Catholic faith, and will at times participate in (and even lead others in) Catholic prayers. Applicants must be practicing Catholics in good standing who assent to and profess the Catholic faith in its entirety as presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

This position is a full-time, in-office position in Washington, D.C., and requires full-time residency in Washington.
