This course will examine how Aquinas helps us to see that there is no room for a "wishy-washy" middle ground on Jesus (as if, say, he's just a nice moral teacher) but is instead the Lord and Master of human life, as he is truly God and truly man. We shall accomplish this by examining the following elements of Aquinas' doctrine of Christ: the role of a comprehensive Christology in the overall plan of the Summa; the fittingness of the Incarnation; the hypostatic union; the parts of human nature that were assumed (assumpta) and the co-assumed perfections and defects (coassumpta); and Christ's suffering for our salvation.
