The mystery of the Incarnation is revealed to us by Scripture and the tradition of the Church. Without revelation, the human intellect cannot ascertain this truth about Christ. The grace of faith however makes the intellect apt to investigate and understand the mystery, if only in part. But how do we begin to investigate such a lofty mystery, especially when history is strewn with misbegotten attempts? This reading group will approach this mystery with the help of St. Thomas Aquinas and his Christological section of the Summa Theologiae, the Tertia Pars. There we find keen answers to the most vexing Christological puzzlers: Why did the Word become Incarnate? How is Christ both God and man? Is Christ a creature? The puzzlers and more!

- Summa theologiae, III, q. 1, art. 1 and 2
