About the speaker:
I am an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.
My primary research area is the philosophy of physics, especially questions concerning the philosophical and mathematical foundations of gauge symmetry, spacetime theories, and quantum field theory. I am also interested in the philosophy of modeling (at various scales) as well as approaches to scientific representation that are inspired by the Aristotelian-Thomistic tradition.
My broader interests include the philosophy of art (especially during the medieval to renaissance transition in Florence) and the foundations of economics and finance.
Previously, I held postdoctoral research fellowships at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge and the Quantum Group at the Oxford University Comlab. Before that, I read for a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science at Trinity College, Cambridge.
