Xavier Symons is Director of the Plunkett Centre for Ethics at the Australian Catholic University. He is a philosopher and bioethicist and his research interests include conscience and conscientious objection, ethical issues at the beginning and end of life, and the philosophy of wellbeing. His first book Why Conscience Matters: A Defence of Conscientious Objection was published with Routledge University Press in 2022. He is widely published in medical ethics journals and his work has also featured in popular outlets such as Public Discourse, The Australian Financial Review, and ABC Religion and Ethics.
