The Thomistic Institute and Catholic Information Center present a lecture by Dr. Thomas Hibbs of the University of Dallas titled “True Freedom in the Arts: Beauty and Devotion in Catholic Art.”

Catholics are heirs to the most remarkable heritage of art — painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, music, even film — that the world has ever known. Yet in the modern period faith and art often diverge, as art itself often diverges from beauty. How should we understand faith and art in our current culture?

For guidance, Dr. Hibb’s lecture will look to the thought and artistic images of two Catholic friends, Jacques Maritian, one of the great Thomists of the 20th century, and Georges Rouault, perhaps the finest religious artist of the century.
