The Vocation of the Catholic Intellectual
By virtue of their baptismal grace, Catholics are consecrated as adopted sons and daughters of God. But, the grace given in baptism is not a merely static reality. Rather, it is intended to prove fruitful in the life of the individual and in the lives of those to whom he or she is sent. The intellectual life, as practiced by Catholics, is healed and elevated by God’s grace both as a contemplative wisdom and as a missionary enterprise. In this conference, we will consider what it means to be wise and holy as a Catholic in an academic setting, understood precisely as a vocation.
This conference will gather students who will be Campus Chapter leaders in the 2020-2021 academic year, for a time of formation in philosophy, theology, and the practical aspects of running a Thomistic Institute Chapter. There will be ample time for learning more about St. Thomas Aquinas and the intellectual life as well as time for prayer, sacraments, meals, socializing, and outings in Washington, D.C.
All registration costs, food, lodging, and activities are covered by the Thomistic Institute. The deadline for registration is April 12th. Participants who submit travel receipts by July 12th will be reimbursed for travel.
