This conference on "Christianity and Freedom" will bring together speakers from diverse disciplines to discuss the meaning and evolution of the Christian idea of freedom. Lectures will consider the theme from the perspective of Augustine, Origen, Ambrose, Dante, Thomas Aquinas, Nicolas of Cusa, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Servais Pinckaers, and John Paul II.

Speakers will include: Prof. Sarah Byers (Boston College), Prof. Giuseppe Mazzotta (Yale University), Prof. Thomas Pfau (Duke University), and Fr. James Brent, OP on Aquinas (The Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C.).

11:30 am: Fr. James Brent, O.P. on "The Meaning of Freedom in Thomas Aquinas."

2:00 pm: Prof. Giuseppe Mazzotta on "Liberty and Grace: Dante and St. Augustine."

3:30 pm: Prof. Thomas Pfau on "Seeing and Being Seen Coincide: Freedom as Contemplation in Nicholas of Cusa and G. M. Hopkins."

4:30 pm: Concluding Panel with reception to follow.
