Lecture Description:

If God is perfectly good, powerful, and knowing, then why does he allow evil and suffering?  Why would a perfect God create beings who can sin?  This talk will explore how Thomas Aquinas thinks about God, suffering, sin, evil, and creation.

Speaker Bio:

Jennifer Frey is an assistant professor in the philosophy department at the University of South Carolina. Her research lies at the intersection of philosophy of action, ethics and meta-ethics.  She is also the co-PI on a major three-year research project, titled “Virtue, Happiness, and Meaning of Life.” Further research interests include the history of ethics, especially medieval and early modern. The philosophers who have most positively influenced her work are Aristotle, Aquinas, and Anscombe.
