VERITAS: The Thomistic Institute’s New Conference Draws Record Attendance
Washington, D.C. – July 11, 2024 – The Thomistic Institute's Student Leadership Conference expanded this year to become VERITAS, an annual event for student leaders, Thomistic Institute members, alumni, and other members of the TI community.
Under the theme "Why Be A Thomist?", the inaugural VERITAS conference drew over 270 visitors to the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. from June 26-30, 2024.
The conference began with a dedicated session for TI Campus Chapter leaders, who convened from Wednesday to Sunday for formation in philosophy, theology, and practical skills related to running a Thomistic Institute chapter. This segment was marked by times of prayer with the Dominican friars.
From Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, the VERTAS conference expanded to welcome speakers, members, alumni, and other constituents of the Thomistic Institute community. The agenda featured philosophical and theological discussions, moments of communal prayer and sacraments, shared meals, and networking opportunities. On Saturday afternoon, keynote speaker Matt Fradd of the popular YouTube channel, Pints with Aquinas, was interviewed by Father Gregory Pine, O.P.
Father Dominic Legge, O.P., Director of the Thomistic Institute, was thrilled with the event.
"I was totally bowled over by the success and fruits of VERITAS. This may have been the most important single event that the TI has yet held. Above all, I sensed a profound spiritual impact in the talks and especially in the liturgies. In the wake of the conference, we Dominican friars spent literally hours talking with amazing students who spontaneously wanted to thank us and to talk privately with us — sometimes with tears — about the deep impact it had on their minds and their souls. It's obvious to me that this opens up a new and fruitful vista for the TI,” said Father Dominic.
“This large event — over 270 participants — is going to be even bigger next year. I've been sending up prayers of gratitude for our generous donors who made this happen through their gifts, for our team who worked so hard to bring it about, and for everyone who joined us in Washington, DC, including Matt Fradd and our other speakers. I’m already looking forward to the next session of VERITAS from June 25-29, 2025, where we will continue to explore the richness of our Catholic faith.”
