Why Be A Thomist?

Join us in Washington, D.C., for philosophical and theological discussions, time for prayer, sacraments, meals, socializing, and more!

Veritas is a significant expansion of our annual Student Leadership Conference. In the past, the conference has been exclusively for TI student chapter leaders. This year, you are invited to join several hundred TI students and recent alumni, TI faculty speakers, faculty advisors, and other benefactors for the concluding weekend of this annual gathering.

Solemn vespers will be followed by a welcome reception (hors d’oeuvres only) on Friday evening. Saturday will include breakout sessions, two plenary sessions, Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate, and a dessert reception. On Sunday we’ll have a concluding Mass, also at the Basilica, followed by a panel discussion with Q&A, and a farewell blessing.

This year’s theme is “Why Be a Thomist?” Our focus will be on the role of Thomistic thought in the contemporary world.

  • Beginning with Solemn Vespers and a reception on Friday evening and ending with a Quodlibetal Session on Sunday morning, you’ll be able to attend and participate in breakout and plenary sessions, liturgies, socials, and more! You are specially invited to attend the VIP cocktail reception and banquet on Saturday, June 29. You can view the tentative schedule here.

  • Thomistic Institute student leaders will be joined by other TI students and recent alumni, TI faculty speakers, faculty advisors, and benefactors. We look forward to welcoming many of our constituents to this celebration of Thomistic thought!

  • In Washington, DC. Specifically, we’ll be using spaces at the Dominican House of Studies (487 Michigan Ave. NE, Washington, DC) and on the Catholic University of America’s campus (right across the street from the DHS).

  • If flying, Reagan National Airport (DCA) is closest to the Dominican House of Studies. Dulles International Airport (IAD) is also a good option, just a bit further away. Both airports have DC metro stops, and the Brookland-CUA Metro station (Red Line) is two blocks from the Dominican House.

    If you are driving, there will be parking available on CUA’s campus and at the DHS.

  • Yes, there will be limited free parking available at the Dominican House of Studies. If parking at the DHS is full, we recommend parking in the visitor parking lot at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (3837 Harewood Rd NE, Washington, DC).

  • Meals will be provided at the Catholic University of America’s Dining Hall. There are also several restaurants within walking distance on Monroe Street and 12th Street. Snacks and drinks will be provided during the breaks and socials, and we will have a VIP Banquet on Saturday evening.

  • No, attendees are responsible for arranging their own lodging.

  • No, the conference sessions will not be live-streamed, but the sessions will be recorded and released on the Thomistic Institute podcast in the months following the event.
